Hawaii Solar Rebates and Incentives

With Solar Community, You Save the Most on Your Solar System!

1

Now, more than ever before, going solar has been made both cost-effective and simple for homeowners. Cost-effectiveness is largely assisted by Government-initiated residential solar rebates and incentives, which are in place on a Federal, State and Local level. Simplicity is achieved with Solar Community, as we handle the entire paperwork process for you. By thoroughly researching and matching cost-cutting solar rebates and incentives on a case-by-case basis, we will work hard to ensure the lowest system cost possible for each individual customer. With Solar Community helming the whole procedure, it couldn’t be easier for you!

Federal: Save With a Tax Credit

The same U.S. Federal Credit applies to every new system installation at a flat 30% of the full system price after installation, with no upper limit. Solar Community will provide you with the document necessary to add to your tax forms. The discount comes for you as a tax credit. All applicable photovoltaic systems must provide electricity for the residence and must meet applicable fire and electrical code requirements. State: Hawaii Energy - Energy Efficiency Rebate

The Hawaii Energy - Energy Efficiency Program offers incentives for residential customers on Hawaii, Maui, Lanai Molokai, and Oahu for investments in Energy Star appliances and other approved energy efficiency measures. Rebates are only available for retrofits. Rebates are available for a variety of appliances, certain air conditioners and the servicing of central air conditioners. Appliances must be installed on one of the eligible islands and participants must apply for rebate within six months of purchasing the appliance. The incentive is limited to one of each appliance with the exception of ceiling fans and air conditioners, of which participants can claim rebates for up to five purchases. Additional restrictions apply; interested customers should visit the program web site for more information.

State: Hawaii Solar and Wind Energy Credit

Originally enacted in 1976, the Hawaii Energy Tax Credits allow individuals or corporations to claim an income tax credit of 20% of the cost of equipment and installation of a wind system and 35% of the cost of equipment and installation of a solar thermal or photovoltaic (PV) system.

For solar thermal energy systems, the maximum allowable credits are as follows:

  • Single family residential property is eligible for a credit of 35% of the actual cost or $2,250, whichever is less
  • Multi-family residential property is eligible for a credit of 35% of the actual cost or $350 per unit, whichever is less

For photovoltaic systems, the maximum allowable credits are as follows:

  • Single family residential property is eligible for a credit of 35% of the actual cost or $5,000, whichever is less
  • Multi-family residential property is eligible for a credit of 35% of the actual cost or $350 per unit, whichever is less

Local: City and County of Honolulu - Real Property Tax Exemption for Alternative Energy Improvements

In September 2009, the Honolulu City Council unanimously passed Bill 58 to create a real property tax exemption for alternative energy improvements. This bill became effective October 1, 2009. The alternative energy property installed on a building, property, or land is exempt from property taxes for 25 years. For the purposes of this property tax exemption, alternative energy sources include solar, wind, hydropower, tidal, wave, solid waste and increased efficiency in fossil-fuel burning facilities. Energy sources based on fossil fuels, nuclear fuels or geothermal energy are not eligible for this exemption.

Glad things are going well. We're still super happy with our panels - especially this month when we haven't had to run AC or heat..."
